A report form The Athletic claims that Arsenal have opened contract talks with promising youngster Emile Smith Rowe. The Gunners have already tied down other exciting talents likes Bukayo Saka last year and Folarin Balogun last month.
They’ve now set their sights on a new deal for Smith Rowe and this was disclosed in David Ornstein’s weekly column for The Athletic.
The youngster is about to enter the final two years of his current contract and this has prompted the club to get him to commit his future to them and tie him down on a long-term deal.
The youngster came to the limelight for the Gunners’ senior team after impressing in the Boxing Day victory against Chelsea. Since then, he has become an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s plans and has missed just three games due to injury since the game against Chelsea.
Smith Rowe has helped improved Arsenal’s attacking fortunes and creativity coupled with the arrival of Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid. He currently has seven assists in all competitions this season and this is a good one for the youngster.
Arsenal will also sign another Number 10 even after tying down Smith Rowe and it remains to be seen if it will be Odegaard or another attacking option.
The club’s finances and intentions of strengthening some major areas in the squad have been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Regardless, they should be able to come up with significant funds through some expected departures.
They may not make any gain from David Luiz’s departure as the Brazilian will leave as a free agent. Loan deals for Ceballos and Mat Ryan will come to an end while the futures of Hector Bellerin and Reiss Nelson appear uncertain.
It appears that the trio of Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, and Hector Bellerin are surplus to requirements at Arsenal.
